Welcome to Celloffonic
a multi-cello group based in South Wales, U.K.
The cello ensemble began life in the summer of 2005 as
¨The 12 Cellists of the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra¨
and gave 12 public performances around the
South Wales
area including one at the Wales Millennium Centre.
In a bid to broaden our membership base, in 2007 we morphed into
Celloffonic and debuted with our new name (and waistcoats!)
at Queens Arcade, Cardiff in December 2007.
We have further exciting plans
for the development of the group and future performances!
As a non-profit making organisation the group contains an extraordinary
range of individuals, including a rowing enthusiast, an optometrist, a
psychiatrist,a German teacher, a triathlete, an accountant, a science technician,
an Associated Board examiner, a civil servant, a semiconductor scientist,
an acoustic engineer, a law graduate, a historian and several music
teachers. The same list includes a conductor, some singers, a
viola player,
a bassoonist,a French horn player, a clarinettist
and several pianists.
The ensemble's extensive repertoire is designed to mirror the very
different personalities of its players and to afford interest, variety
and above all, entertainment to themselves and their audiences.
The group's first musical director, Martin May, who ensured
the ensemble's early success, was succeeded in the
autumn of 2006 by Claire Frankcom.
Since 2007 Paul Lewis has been musical director of Celloffonic.
Current players are :
Alex, Clare, Gareth, Helen T, Kate, Laura,
Lesley, Neil, Philippa, Stewart and Val.
It's all for fun!
